PSA 182

I was a 6th grader at Chesterton Elementary School in San Diego when this happened that morning.

PSA Flight 182 with its wing on fire plummets toward North Park after colliding with a Cessna 172 on September 25, 1978. Photograph taken by Hans Wendt. Wendt was a county photographer when he caught this image while covering a press conference in the area.

Hello Dear Blog

September 21st, 2008 · No Comments

Yes, I’ve been neglecting you for sometime. I came home and totally forgot about you. Not that I’ve had a ton to talk to you about. It’s been work and home and work and home for a bit now. Today is cleaning day, since the Chargers don’t play until tomorrow night. I’m putting it off until later, maybe after lunch.

Muggy decided that my laptop keyboard needed some rearranging, she just tried to jump up from the floor, passed me, and placed he claw down into the keyboard and dragged about 5 keys off. I turned to patience mode and fixed it. Darn CAT!

Thursday, Marlo and I attended a Big Brother/Big Sister social. I’m still considering being a Big Brother. Still some ruminating to do on this.

Imari and Okawachi Valley

August 11th, 2008 · No Comments

I am back home. The Japan adventure is over! And it was great. On the last Friday before returning home Russell and Sylvia took Dave an myself to Imari and Okawachi Valley. This a center of Japanese porcelain, with shops lining the narrow streets in the beautiful valley.

Thanks to Dave for his pictures, my camera was down for the count.

Kyushu to you too

August 7th, 2008 · No Comments

Hello all from Sasebo on Kyushu. We have pretty cool thunderstorms here tonight. Bit of rain and lightning.

On Monday, I met Russell’s wife Sylvia and they took me and Dave to a kushiyaki place, which is "Things on Sticks". We had pork, chicken, fried potato, and asparagus wrapped in bacon. The sailors next to us had cheese wrapped in bacon. Heart attack on the stick. Sylvia was a great hostess!

On Wednesday, for lunch Russell and Suzuki took us up to the top of the overlook of the 99 (really 204) Islands.

Oh, Sasebo

August 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

Greetings from the south. Not much to do here. Wandered around the town. Long mall, lots of shopping. Its still hot and the mall is outdoors, so yeah! Tried Mos Burger here. Different kind of Japanese burger. One they had this sauce, which is like a chili sauce, but sweeter. Burger was not too beefy, more like an after thought. Here are some pics of the Albuquerque bridge, the awesome view from the hotel Chisun and some fireworks from the Seaside Festival last night.

Yokosuka to Sasebo

July 31st, 2008 · No Comments

I’ve headed down to Sasebo. I’ll have some pictures up later from my roaming. First, lets review the hotel in Yokosuka. Very nice place, a bit musty at times, but that’s what happens when they turn off the AC to your room when you are not there. You have to place your key in slot to get the power to activate in your room. Plus they make you hand your key in when you leave (same in Sasebo, but no plug-in/make your power come on situation here). So people come back from work and have mastered the multi-tasker that is the free toothbrush. You place this in your power slot and then when you come back from dinner, your room is wonderfully air-conditioned for you.

Here is the room size. Double bed, desk, couple of chairs, and another desk by the window. Then the microwave on the left side is a shelf unit, turns to the wall I’m standing next to and then out. Not very big.

DSC00749

Here is the bathroom. Only thing big in here was the leap you have to take to get into the tub.
